Buying an infrared sauna was one of the best wellness investments I've ever made. Looking back, there are a few things I wish someone had told me before I brought one into my spa. If you're thinking about buying one for your home, I hope these lessons help you make the best decision.
Welcome back to The Wellness Journal.
When I decided to bring an infrared sauna into my spa, I was excited.
I pictured clients relaxing before their treatments and enjoying a little extra self-care.
What I didn't picture was how much I'd end up using it myself.
Today, you'll usually find me in the Zen Den, enjoying a quiet session in the Salt Cave between clients or after a busy Saturday.
If I could go back and give myself advice before making the investment, here's exactly what I'd say.
I Wish I Knew I'd Use It More Than Anyone Else
I truly bought it for my clients.
Now, I might be its biggest fan.
It's become my favorite place to reset, recharge, and simply enjoy a little quiet before heading back into a busy day.
I Wish I Had Stopped Thinking of It as a Luxury
At first, I saw it as a beautiful wellness feature.
Now, I see it as part of my routine.
It's no different than making time for exercise, getting enough sleep, or drinking enough water.
It's something I do because I feel better when I do.
I Wish I Had Planned My Wellness Space First
The sauna is wonderful.
But what really changed the experience was creating an environment around it.
The Zen Den became a peaceful place where I could slow down, breathe, and leave the stress of the day outside the door.
Creating the atmosphere was just as important as choosing the sauna itself.
I Wish I Knew Consistency Matters More Than Long Sessions
You don't have to spend an hour inside to enjoy your sauna.
Some of my favorite sessions are just twenty or thirty quiet minutes.
Little moments add up.
I Wish I Had Realistic Expectations
An infrared sauna isn't a magic solution.
It doesn't instantly erase stress or make life less busy.
What it does give me is a dedicated space to pause.
Sometimes that's exactly what I need.
I Wish I Hadn't Worried So Much About the Details
When I was shopping, I compared every specification.
Every feature.
Every option.
Looking back, the most important question wasn't which model had one extra feature.
It was...
Will I actually enjoy using this?
For me, the answer has been a very happy yes.
I Wish Someone Had Told Me It Would Become My Thinking Spot
Some of my best ideas have come while sitting quietly in the Salt Cave.
Without my phone.
Without interruptions.
Without a to-do list staring back at me.
There's something about stepping away from the noise that helps me think more clearly.
I Wish I Had Known How Much I'd Look Forward to It
After a long day at the spa, I genuinely look forward to those quiet moments.
Not because I have to.
Because I want to.
That might be my favorite surprise of all.
I Wish I Had Bought It Sooner
There aren't many purchases I can say that about.
This is one of them.
The value hasn't come from owning a sauna.
It's come from making time for myself.
I Wish I Had Realized Self-Care Doesn't Have to Be Complicated
For years, I thought self-care had to be a weekend away or a special occasion.
Now I know it can simply be twenty peaceful minutes in the Salt Cave before I head home to my family.
Sometimes the smallest rituals become the most meaningful.
✨ Sienna's Tip
If you're thinking about buying an infrared sauna, don't just picture where it's going to go.
Picture how you'll use it.
Will it become your morning routine?
Your evening reset?
Your quiet place after work?
Create a space you'll actually look forward to visiting.
Whether it's a dedicated wellness room or a cozy corner of your home, those small moments of peace have a way of changing everything.
