If You Had Told Me...
If you had told me ten years ago that one of my favorite rooms in my spa wouldn't be a treatment room, I never would have believed you.
I'm a licensed esthetician and the founder of Sienna & Co. Spa, where I spend my days helping clients care for their skin, relax, and feel like the best version of themselves. Taking care of others has always come naturally to me. Learning to take care of myself... that took a little longer.
But here we are.
When I have an unexpected cancellation between clients, you'll almost always find me slipping away to the Zen Den. It's a private wellness room inside my spa that has become my little escape from the busy world outside.
Inside the Zen Den is my favorite place of all: the Salt Cave.
It's my infrared sauna, complete with Himalayan salt, soft lighting, and just enough quiet to help me reset before welcoming my next client.
Sometimes I'm in there for twenty minutes.
Sometimes it's before my massage.
Sometimes it's after a long Saturday when the spa is finally quiet and everyone has gone home.
No phone.
No emails.
No to-do list.
Just warmth, stillness, and a chance to breathe.
I didn't realize it when I first bought it, but that little room has completely changed the way I take care of myself.
The Wellness Room Is Replacing the "Bonus Room"
For years, everyone wanted a home theater.
Then it was the home gym.
Today, I'm seeing something different.
People are creating wellness rooms.
Not because they're trendy.
Because we're exhausted.
Life moves fast. Between work, kids, appointments, sports, errands, and everything else on our calendars, it's easy to spend every ounce of energy taking care of everyone except ourselves.
A wellness room is a gentle reminder that you deserve care, too.
And no, it doesn't have to be an entire room.
It might be a quiet corner with a cozy chair and a Himalayan salt lamp.
It could be a spare bedroom with an infrared sauna.
Maybe it's a patio with a cold plunge tucked beside your outdoor sauna.
The goal isn't perfection.
The goal is creating a space that helps you slow down.
Wellness Looks Different for Everyone
One of my favorite things about wellness is that there's no right way to do it.
For me, it's stepping into the Salt Cave between clients.
For someone else, it might be reading under a weighted blanket before bed.
Maybe it's a cup of tea after the kids are asleep.
Maybe it's five peaceful minutes sitting beside the soft glow of a Himalayan salt lamp.
Wellness isn't about doing everything.
It's about finding the little rituals that help you feel more like yourself.
My Favorite Investment Hasn't Been a Purse
If you know me, you know I love a beautiful handbag.
Louis Vuitton? Absolutely.
Gucci? Yes, please.
Prada? I have a few of those, too.
I genuinely appreciate beautiful craftsmanship, and I will never say no to a gorgeous bag.
But if I'm being completely honest...
One of the best investments I've ever made wasn't something hanging in my closet.
It was creating a space where I could finally slow down.
Since adding the Salt Cave to my spa, I've become so much better at taking care of myself.
That probably sounds funny coming from someone who owns a spa.
You'd think I'd always make time for self-care.
The truth?
I was just as guilty as everyone else.
Always taking care of clients.
Always taking care of my family.
Always putting myself last.
Now, when I have twenty unexpected minutes, I don't scroll my phone.
I step into the warmth.
And somehow, twenty minutes later, I walk back out feeling like myself again.
As much as I love a Louis Vuitton bag, nothing I've ever bought has given me the feeling I get when I open the door to the Zen Den and step into the Salt Cave.
And to me, that's what real luxury looks like.
Your Wellness Room Doesn't Have to Be Perfect
If there's one thing I hope you take away from this article, it's this:
Don't wait until your house is bigger.
Don't wait until life slows down.
Don't wait until everything is perfect.
Start with one thing.
One salt lamp.
One comfortable chair.
One cozy blanket.
One infrared sauna you've been dreaming about.
One quiet corner that belongs just to you.
Because the most beautiful wellness spaces aren't the most expensive.
They're the ones that actually get used.
From My Heart to Yours
Years ago, I promised myself that if I ever owned a spa, I'd build a salt room.
That dream became the Salt Cave inside the Zen Den.
Now my hope is that Sienna Wellness Co. helps you create your own version of that feeling, whether it's an entire wellness room or simply a peaceful corner that makes you smile every time you walk by.
Because everyone deserves a place to slow down.
And maybe that's what real luxury has been all along.
Not another thing to own.
But a space that helps you become the best version of yourself.
